Natore, the northern district of the country with an area of 1896.05 sq. km, is surrounded by Bogra to the north, Sirajganj to the east, Pabna to the south, Rajshahi to the west, and a portion of the north-west by Naogaon. Natore district city stands on the bank of the river 'Narode'.

Natore Sub-division was established in 1845. However, Natore Police Sub-division was introduced in 1829. It was declared as a district on February 4, 1984. It consists of 7 Upazilas, 8 Pourashavas, 52 Unions, and 1366 villages. Over 17 lakh people live in this district.

Natore district has a strong history and diversified cultural heritage. It is known as the land of Raj-Raja. Raja Ramzibon Rai was the first ruler of Natore. After the death of Ramkanta, Queen Rani Bhabani took responsibility for the Natore empire. Notable archaeological heritage sites include Natore Rajbari, Dighapotia Rajbari (Uttara Ganabhaban), Dayarampur Rajbari (Bagatipara), and Budpara Kali Mondir (Lalpur).

Natore is also known as the land of 'Banalata Sen', though it was the imagination of a poet. Jibanananda Das wrote the famous poem 'Banalata Sen', which made Natore a symbol of romanticism in Bengali literature.

Natore has a large village and a large beel named 'Kolom' and 'Chalan Beel' respectively. There is a proverb in our country: 'Gram dekho to Kolom, abong Beel dekho to Chalan'.

Natore town has a good road communication system. It is considered the 'Gateway' for communication between the Rajshahi Divisional HQ and the capital city, Dhaka. It is also the gateway for interconnection with the Rangpur and Khulna divisions.

The main transport is bus. Also, train communication throughout the country is available. Natore is about 220 km away from the capital city, Dhaka.

Natore is famous for gold ornaments. Previously, this business was confined to Hindu communities, but nowadays, Muslims also participate in this profession. There are about 500 jewelry shops in the district.

Natore is countrywide famous for a special sweetmeat named 'Kachagolla'.

Lalpur, one of the upazilas of Natore, has the record for the lowest average annual rainfall in Bangladesh.
