Thakurgaon district city stands on the bank of the Tangon river and is located at 25°40' - 26°10' North and 88°36' East. It was established as a sub-division in 1860 and was declared a district on 1st February 1984. It consists of five upazilas, three Pourashavas, and fifty-one unions. Administrative work started in 1860. Thakurgaon Pourashava was established in 1958. It is renowned for tourist spots like Ramshagor Dighi, the Jamidarbari at Ranisankail Upazila, Fun City at Pirganj Upazila, the ancient Harinmari mango tree at Baliadangi Upazila, and the Jamidarbari at Haripur Upazila. The district is adjacent to the Indian border.
