Kurigram District Town stands on the bank of the Dharla river and is located at 25°75'00"N and 89°66'00"E. It was declared a district on 23rd January 1984. It consists of 9 upazilas, 3 municipalities, and 73 unions. Kurigram district has a strong history and culture. The Kurigram Municipality was established on 20th January 1972. The district is adjacent to the Indian Assam border.
